Open Collectives at Venice Biennale

Architecture by Rafi Segal, film by Marisa Morán Jahn, 2021

On view at the Architecture Exhibition of the 17th Venice Biennale, Open Collectives is an immersive installation that explores the relationship between collectives and architectural and urban forms. How can spatial practices enable groups to realize their goals of collective self-determination? And in a digital era, what new possibilities can collectives harness to strengthen solidarity? The installation was led by architect Rafi Segal, Director of MIT Future Urban Collectives, and data geographer Sarah Williams, Director of MIT Civic Data Design Lab, in collaboration with artist Marisa Morán Jahn and futurist Greg Lindsay.
